Life is STILL hard and food is STILL easy

Life is hard, food is easyDuring the years when I owned my weight-loss clinic in Denver, CO, I found my clients always seemed to struggle with the same issues—emotional eating, poor self-esteem, and low motivation.

I kept getting frustrated with the books and resources on the market, so in 2003, I wrote Life is Hard, Food is Easy, a book that could help my clients overcome these issues.

Grieving a loss without eating

Peppy - favorite dogAbout a month ago, Peppy died after a very brief illness. She was our sweet cocker spaniel and we loved her so much. She was 11 and ½ years old and she was such a good dog.

My husband and I were devastated and are still feeling sad when we think about her.

For some reason, her death made me turn to my old friends, cookies and ice cream, for comfort. [Read more…]

How to never stop on the scale at the doctor’s office

That dreaded doctor’s scale! Most of us, especially women, hate getting on that thing.

During my years of running a weight-loss clinic, I heard tons of stories from people who were upset about facing the scale at the doctor’s office.

Here’s how a client named Margie described it. [Read more…]

How to lose weight when it’s TOO hard

Baby and teddy bear

There’s no getting around it. Losing weight (and maintaining) is hard.

And lately, for a lot of you, it seems to be extra hard.

Coping with the pandemic, dealing with winter (especially here in Iowa) and sometimes just feeling a bit depressed and discouraged can all take a toll on your spirits. [Read more…]

YOU at your best

best yet to come

Remember that your best YOU is not perfect. It doesn’t have to run a marathon and it doesn’t have to cook a new recipe every week.

If you want to do those things, it’s fine, but decide if they fit into your goals for the year. They certainly don’t match mine!

Being your best YOU starts with building a vision of how you want to be and then taking steps toward becoming that. [Read more…]

Be your best ME

Instead of setting lofty goals you probably won’t accomplish, I suggest a much easier plan.

This year, strive to be your best YOU.

Over the next year, that might include losing weight or increasing your exercise. [Read more…]
