The holidays are over, and if you are like many people, so are your New Year’s Resolutions!
We start with such good intentions, and maybe they work for a while. But then we get tired or worried about our job or our finances, and little by little, they slip away.
But what if they don’t have to? Perhaps this can be the year when you really stick with your plans and reach your goals with weight loss, exercise, and healthy living. Wow, I would love to see that for myself, so I’m working on new ideas for staying on track with all of those things.
As promised in my last newsletter, I am including Part 2 of Libby Winkler’s guest post:
Full Circle: Redefining Success After the Scale Stops Moving
Her insights not only on losing weight but also what happens in the process are really accurate.
If you missed part 1, you can read it here.
Part 2: How to Stay Steady When Progress Slows
You’ve certainly been there a time or two. You were doing so well, but then your weight loss slowed down and maybe even stopped. Now what? How do you stay on track and not lose hope and motivation when that happens?
Here are some of the things that have helped me in this journey:
1. Shift the Focus to How You Feel
Numbers tell one story; your body tells another.
• Tip: Track mood, energy, strength, and sleep instead of only weight. These are the truest markers of ongoing wellness.
2. Stay Engaged With Your Habits
Consistency doesn’t mean rigidity—it means awareness.
• Tip: Do a monthly “mini-audit.” Ask: What habits feel solid? Which needs attention? Minor course corrections keep you on track.
3. Redefine Motivation
Early motivation came from change; lasting motivation comes from purpose.
• Tip: Write down one sentence: I maintain this lifestyle because… Then fill it in—”because I want to stay off medication” or “because I love feeling this free in my body.” Keep that note in a visible location.
4. Accept Plateaus as Normal, Not Failure
Maintenance is a plateau—just a healthy one.
• Tip: Celebrate stability the same way you once celebrated loss. Every month your weight holds steady is proof that you’re doing it.
5. Keep Growing in Other Ways
If your focus isn’t the scale, where does that energy go?
• Tip: Channel it into something new—strength goals, hobbies, travel, or creative pursuits. Let your wellness become the platform for your next adventure, not the endpoint.
The Emotional Full Circle
GLP-1s may have started as a way to change your body, but they often end up as a way to reclaim your relationship with it.
This stage is where you stop chasing transformation and start living it. You begin trusting yourself—not the medication, not the meal plan, not the number—to guide your choices.
And maybe the best part? You realize you’ve become the kind of person you used to look up to: someone who takes care of themselves, even when no one’s watching, even when the scale doesn’t budge.
Why This Matters
Weight loss can change your life. But maintaining that change—emotionally, mentally, and physically—is what transforms it into a legacy.
The bottom line: Maintenance isn’t the end of your journey. It’s the proof that you’ve arrived.
The goal was not just to lose weight, but to achieve lasting peace, confidence, and control.
