Day 23 – Food and nurturing

Day 2From 100 MORE Days of Weight Loss, Day 23

You can’t fix an empty life by simply eating carrots instead of potato chips.

But by following a few easy steps, you can learn to nurture yourself instead of heading to the refrigerator for evening comfort.

Here are my answers to the three questions at the end of the lesson.

1. When are your worst times of day with food and eating issues?

Mid-afternoon when I start wanting cookies or sweets.
Late evenings, especially in the summer when I want ice cream. Sometimes we go to a frozen yogurt shop but I usually put on too many toppings so it’s a lot of calories.

2. Identify at least two alternate activities you can do during this time.

Mid-afternoon – do something not related to work. Play the piano, read a cookbook to get new ideas for healthy meals.
Evenings – Drink herbal tea, take a walk, read a novel

3. Record how this works and whether it changes your eating patterns.

When I consistently do things that make me feel nurtured, I’m able to skip my cookies or ice cream.
This is an ongoing challenge in my life, but when I focus on the solutions, I usually do a lot better.
